SM Investments Corp., the flagship company of mall magnate Henry Sy, will spend up to P2.4 billion to build a convention center and a call center facility on its 60-hectare business park near the Mall of Asia in the Manila Bay reclamation area, the company said in a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange.

It said it would begin construction of the country's first private exhibition and convention center and a 10-story courtyard-oriented eCommerce building in the first quarter of 2006.

The 40,000-square-meter, two-floor SM Exhibition and Convention Center, estimated to cost P900 million, will have a total leasable area of 17,800 square meters featuring large exhibition areas and function rooms.

The 94,000-square meter SM eCOMCenter, estimated to cost P1.5 billion, will have a total leasable area of 67,900 square meters, with seven floors earmarked for office space, two-and-a-half floors for parking, and the ground floor for commercial purposes.

Both projects are expected to be completed by the mid-2007.

The Mall of Asia, the centerpiece of the business park, is set to open in the first quarter of 2006. With INQ7.net
