The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will cut down the requirements from entrepreneurs who are registering their business names with the agency as its contribution to the government's drive to eliminate bureaucratic red tape.
Trade and Industry Secretary Peter B. Favila, who also heads the Anti-Red Tape Task Force, ordered the review of transactions within the Department to determine which processes and requirements can be done away with.
"We need to speed up the transaction time in the Department and lessen the cost of doing business," Favila said.
"By reducing the time and money spent by businessmen in government transaction, we increase the competitiveness of the country and convince more entrepreneurs to engage in small business," he said.
"We have extended the transaction time and put up more registration venues to improve our service and enable us to accommodate more applicants," he said.
In a prepared Department Administrative Order, applicant's are no longer to require to submit their photos.
Also, all business names (BN) not renewed within six months from their expiration date will be automatically cancelled from the BN record.
Undersecretary for Consumer Welfare Zenaida Cuison Maglaya added, "Faster processing time for BN applications can encourage more entrepreneurs to register, thus limiting the proliferation of fly-by-night businesses while providing better protection to consumers against unfair trade practices."
Transaction time at the BN section of the DTI office in Makati shall be from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm without noon breaks.
Business name applications for Metro Manila based firms can also be filed at SM Megamall, North EDSA and Southmall and at the city halls of Manila, Quezon City and Valenzuela from Mondays thru Fridays. (BCM)
