JFC franchisee opens Shanghai outlet

By JAMES A. LOYOLA

Jollibee Foods Corporation has opened a tea house in Shanghai, China through a franchise agreement with Chun Shui Tang Tea House Limited of Taiwan.

Jollibee Chairman Tony Tan Caktiong disclosed to the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) that the brand is well known in Taiwan for its iced and hot tea concoctions, pastries and rice meals served in a comfortable restaurant setting.

The concept is aimed at working men and women in metropolis centers. In Shanghai, Jollibee is carrying the same menu and following the same concept using a trendy restaurant design.

Jollibee said, as early as 2004, it formed a team of business managers and store crew, some from Taiwan, to lay the groundwork for its new tea house business.

They trained in Chun Shui Tang Tea House in Taiwan for several months and have been working in Shanghai since the latter part of 2004 in coordination with the Research and Development people from the Jollibee Group and from Chun Sui Tang Tea House Limited.

The new business venture is covered by a franchise agreement between Jollibee International and Ice Tea International, an affiliate of Chun Sui Tang Tea House, which gives the JFC group the exclusive right to operate a restaurant chain in China that carries the Chun Shui Tang Tea House brand name, menu and concept.
