MANILA, Philippines -- Share prices closed narrowly mixed, with the index ending slightly higher driven by gains in market heavyweight Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co (PLDT), dealers said.

They said the market was largely in a correction mode, marked by broad-based profit taking, but active interest in PLDT sent the index to a new high in almost a decade.

At the close, the 30-company composite index was up 3.45 points or 0.1 percent at 3,085.18, after moving between 3,063.45 and 3,090.94. It was up 3.1 percent for the week.

The broader all-share index fell 7.55 points to 1,920.99.

Losers outnumbered gainers 75 to 38, while 56 stocks ended unchanged.

A total of 3.8 billion shares worth P5.7 billion changed hands.
