Digital photography has gone leaps and bounds over the past few years, including digital photo printing services via kiosks and even over the Internet. This has not gone unnoticed by photography giant Kodak, which will soon launch its own online printing service.

Raymond Albert, president and chief executive officer of Techtrends Corp. and a former country manager of Kodak Philippines, said his company was appointed as authorized distributor of Kodak products in the country.

“We’re pretty excited about the launch of this service this year because we believe it will even help further promote awareness about having photos printed. We started this with the world’s biggest photo album effort and with this service, we hope to bring [photo printing] to another level,” Albert said in an interview.

Aside from the usual storage and ordering of photos online, the Kodak online printing service, Albert said, will also facilitate the sale of personalized products like mugs, mouse pads, and even digital photo collages, using customers’ favorite photos.

Albert said that as of now, Kodak only has its Kodak Gallery service, which he said will also be expanded soon.

Ed Reyes, country general manager of Kodak Philippines, meanwhile said that the appointment of Techtrends is part of the mother company’s global “Go To Market” business initiative, which he said will position Kodak to compete and serve customers more effectively.

“This is really a big and critical step for Kodak and the adoption of this business model should help sustain Kodak’s strong position in the market. This has been successfully implemented already in other countries in the region and we don’t see any reason why it won’t succeed here,” Reyes said.

Techtrends
will be responsible for sales, marketing, and service functions currently undertaken internally by the local Kodak team, with sales representatives, marketing people, service engineers and support staff of Kodak’s Consumer Digital Group and Film Photofinishing Systems forming the Techtrends team.

“People who look for the Kodak brand equity should not worry in this shift in our strategy. We will make this as seamless as possible and really ‘business as usual.’ In fact, they could even expect more products in the future. It’s full steam ahead for us,” said Timmy Jayme, former Kodak South Asia regional manager and now marketing communications and Kodak Express channel manager for Techtrends.
